Bullying
Hello again! With the semester coming to an end this is my last blog for my World Literature class. In this blog I want to talk about a very important topic that affects many people, that topic is bullying. People of all ages are bullied, from toddlers to people of old age. People get bullied for all sorts of reasons, from having different views on a topic, have different hobbies, to them having a disability, and many other reasons. In the novel, Notre- Dame de Paris, Quasimodo the main character was bullied because he had a physical deformity. Quasimodo had a hunched back, a leg that was shorter than the other and a deformed face. In the novel the sisters wanted to kill Quasimodo because they believed he was evil that his eye was a egg with a devil inside. They thought that he was bad so he should just be killed. I am glad that today bullying is getting better, and people who have disabilities are not looked at as being bad they are now cherished for who they are and are assisted to live their life to the fullest. With that thank you for reading my blogs!
Man travels to India to help Women
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/recalls-journey-rescue-india-youth-horrors-sex-slavery-article-1.1259918
Hey all! I am back to talk about a very interesting article that I recently read, which I have linked above. This article titled Former NY Met and current Toronto Blue Jay R.A. Dickey tells story of his journey to rescue India's youth from horrors of sex slavery, was a very touching story because Dickey made the trip with his two daughters to India to work with Bombay Teen Challenge (BTC) in the efforts to slowly end sex slavery. These women are usually promised jobs as either a housekeeper or seamstress but then they end up getting locked in a small room being a sex slave. I read this article because it reminded me of the current book we are reading for our World Literature class, The Waiting Years, the article reminded me of this book because in the book Shirakawa has concubines. Which concubines are women kept by a rich man for sexual purposes. Not only does he have these concubines but he has his wife who he was no longer interested in find them for him. I believe Fumiko Enchi the author of this book wrote it to make a point that women should not have to live like that they should not have to be someones slave, which is also what Dickey is trying to get stopped in India. I am glad that this issue is getting better in the world but it is still a problem that needs to disappear.

I Wish
Hello again! I am back and want to tell you all about the experience I had of watching the Japanese foreign film I Wish. I thought watching a foreign film would be difficult because I had another project where I needed to watch a television show without any sound and that was extremely difficult because I could not keep up with the reading of the subtitles. But this experience was very different, even though I still needed to read subtitles they went at a pace where I could read them all and still see what was happening in the movie. Well I suppose you are wondering what this movie is all about. I Wish is about two young brothers who are separated when the parents get a divorce and one lives with mom while the other lives with dad. The boys talk on the phone often and talk about the bullet train and how they heard that if you make a wish while the two bullet trains pass each other your wish will come true. Each brother and a couple friends decide to meet and wish on the trains. Each have a very special wish that they want to come true. The older of the two brothers says he wants the family to get back together so he said he was going to wish for something to happen where the family would have to get together again, but when it came time to actually make a wish he did not because he thought it would be selfish. Many things about this video made me wonder, one thing that made me wonder is why would the parents of all these children let them travel all by themselves overnight to a different town to make a wish on trains, why wouldn't a parent go with them. In our county now parents won't hardly let their children walk or bike to school let alone go to a different town on a train. I also wondered why the boys were split up, why wouldn't they be with one parent for the week and the other on the weekend. I do not know why one would split the children up when a divorce is a hard enough time for the children. Lastly I did not understand why all the writing on the children's shirts was in English. Why wouldn't the writing be in Japanese with it being a Japanese movie. Even thought some parts of this movie had me confused I still really enjoyed this movie and have a good afternoon watching it. I hope you also consider watching I Wish.

The Icarus Girl
Ever have an imaginary friend? Or a friend others were not supposed to know about? Well Jess in the main character in, The Icarus Girl, did have one. This book does not give an exact answer if Tilly Tilly, Jess's friend is real or imaginary. I thought while reading that Tilly Tilly was an imaginary friend, but towards the end she seems to be more real. Tilly Tilly seems more real the more you read because she reveals more and more secrets that Jess otherwise would not know. I found it interesting all the things Jess and Tilly Tilly did together, as well as how Jess's parents thought she was going insane when Jess told them about her friend Tilly Tilly. I feel my parents would think that I was crazy too if they knew I was talking or hanging out with a person no one else ever saw.
Overall I found this book a very interesting book, that kept me thinking. I hope that you may also chose to read this fantastic book.

Analyzing Individuality
Recently in my World Literacy Class we have been analyzing The Tao Te Ching by: Lao Tzu. In this blog entry I have decided to analyze number 70. Individuality.
And my actions are easy to perform
Yet no other can understand or perform them.
My words have meaning; my actions have reason;
Yet these cannot be known and I cannot be known.
We are each unique, and therefore valuable;
Though the sage wears coarse clothes, his heart is jade.

I believe the first section of this piece just says that everyone is different and unique. Which if everyone is unique and different that is what makes balance in the world because not everyone can think or do the same things or there would not be enough of that in the world. For example if everyone in the world was meant to be teachers there would not be people of the other jobs the world needs like hairdressers, or priests, or anyone to work at the local department store.
The next section I believe means that people do things that they cannot always explain. Sometimes people just feel like they have to go a certain way in life, and that is what they do. The last section means that if everyone was the same not everyone on the earth would be needed because we would have other people to perform those tasks on this earth. But since everyone is unique everyone does their special job on this earth.

The Man who Walked Through Walls Close Read
Have you ever wished you had a special power? A power that no one else had? I know I sure have! In the short reading The Man who Walked Through Walls, Dutilleul the main character has the special ability to walk through walls. One of the things that I am curious about is why it took forty three years for him to discover that he had this capability. I wonder this because I bump into walls all the time and I know many other people who do as well, So how he never did to discover that he can go through the wall I do not know. This is not the only portion of this story that I wonder about.
Another part of this story that I do not quite understand is why Dutilleul's coworkers and friends looked up to him like he is a superhero for being able to walk into buildings and steal things. I know that if my friend walked through the wall of a store or bank and stole things I would not be proud of them for that. I would wonder what they were thinking in the moment, and what possessed them to do it again. Even more I wonder why they would tell others and then on purpose get caught in the act. I know I would not have got caught just to prove that I am a criminal. When Caught I enjoy how he acts in jail.
In jail I thought that it was funny how he could get out without being seen at all. I also wonder why they did not handcuff him to stay in his jail cell. Because I think if he had even one handcuff on attaching him to something that he could not get loose so he would not be able to leave the jail by walking through the walls. The part that make it worse is that he got out of jail more than once, would they not have thought of other ways to keep him there?
Even when he got out of jail multiple times where he would receive his needs, I found it entertaining that he put himself into his own jail. He put himself into his own jail when he took the pill without looking at what sort of pill he was taking. He also planned it just right when he started walking through the wall and getting stuck in the middle of the wall from taking the mystery pill that ended up being his medication that stopped him from walking through walls.
I hope you all read this wonderful short story and enjoy it as much as I did.
